The Center Gains Support for Prevention Education Programs

The Center received $2,500 from The Community Fund of Darien this month to support its sexual violence prevention education programs. Over the last year alone, The Center’s sexual violence prevention education programs served over 13,000 people in Lower Fairfield County.

“The Center is excited to partner with The Community Fund of Darien,” Ann McCarthy, Director of Development & Communications at The Center, said in a statement. “We are honored that they see our prevention education program…”


NCC Forms Partnership with Sexual Assault Crisis Center

Norwalk Community College and the Center has worked together for a number of years to educate students on sexual violence.

On Tuesday, NCC and the Stamford-based Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling announced a formal partnership with the signing of a memorandum of understanding. Under the agreement, the two will work together to provide trauma services to students and staff members that have experienced sexual violence.

While I was meeting with staff members at The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education Thursday afternoon, they kept offering reminders of their resolve to keep looking forward. Rather than underscore progress in their mission, they focused on lingering challenges. Rather than dwell on mistakes made by educators during the recent scandal at Stamford High School, they expressed enthusiasm that the school will begin awareness programming with students this week.


Norwalk Woman Honored for Work at The Center in Stamford

Cora Delibertis of Norwalk, a volunteer at The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education in Stamford, received the Outstanding New Adult Individual Volunteer Award from The Volunteer Center of United Way of Western Connecticut.

Delibertis presented the award at the Stamford Volunteer Recognition Day ceremony Friday at the Harry Bennett Branch of the Ferguson Library in Stamford.


From Victim to Survivor: Using Personal Pain to Help Others, Crisis Volunteer Receives Award

Cora Delibertis has learned to transform a very painful experience from her past into motivation for empowering others. As a hotline volunteer at the Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education in Stamford, Delibertis counsels sexual assaults victims over the phone and sometimes in-person.

“We are thrilled that Cora was selected for this honor,” said Raquel Lopez, volunteer coordinator at The Center.


The Center Holds Workshop for Men on Preventing Sexual Violence

It’s a workshop focused on engaging men in preventing sexual violence in their communities, and on Friday The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education held its last one of the year.

This is the second year the Center has provided the statewide training, known as Where Do You Stand? CT. The special program was brought to The Center through a collaboration with the Connecticut Sexual Assault Crisis Services and California based organization Men of Strength.


Stamford-Based Organization on A Mission to Empower Sexual Assault Victims

UConn Seminars Address Sexual Assault on Campus

Jessica Buchanan stood before a room of two dozen University of Connecticut freshmen and talked about sex and violence.

“Sexual violence doesn’t really have to do with the act of sex itself,” she said, and used the explanation she said she gives to younger people. “When I talk to middle school kids, how I explain it to them is that a bully doesn’t bully someone because they’re really hungry and they need money to buy a slice of pizza later. Sexual violence is a crime of power and control.”


Former Advertising Writer Finds True Calling with Stamford Crisis Center

Prevention Education Programs Available At No Cost to Local Schools

The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling & Education offers a series of prevention education classes for the 2014-15 school year.

The center’s programs are designed to promote emotional health, as well as physical safety, according to a publicity release. They are suitable for children in kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as college students. The courses are free for public and private schools in lower Fairfield County, including those in New Canaan and Darien.
